Announcing Our Pushcart Prize Nominations

Ope here,

Get in here! Come on in, you’ll catch a cold! Close the door behind you. Have a sit! Take a seat. Gosh, it’s been a while, huh? We have a lot of catchin’ up to do, you and me. A lot’s been happenin’ at Skipjack camp.

Have you seen Issue 1? Darn purdy, ain’t it? Darn purdy. Lotta darn purdy words! Lotta darn purdy peoples, too. Like that Lee Busby character. Hard to not wanna give him a big ol’ smooch after reading that poem of his about The Boss. By golly, that one was a real fin slapper. And, what about all that great art? Am I right? Me, I don’t read so good, but I love lookin’ at the pictures.

Yep, some mighty fine stuff is happenin’ in Issue 1. It was no easy thing, but we even picked six favorites to nominate for the Pushcart Prize! I don’t know how we did it—I ain’t even got six toes! Here they are:

The Trouble with Water, fiction by C. D. Albin

Timelines, nonfiction by Jared Phillips

Waiting for the Rain, poetry by Paulette Guerin

Dash, dervish essay by Robert Vivian

Generational Wealth, poetry by Sarah B. Cahalan

Like Muddy Waters, poetry by Liv H. Scott

As if that wasn’t hard enough, we went and really racked our brains, picking our favorite favorite from 2023, to be the recipient of this year’s Dead Herring Prize. I’m writing out the check as we speak. But that’s all I’m allowed to say for now.

‘Till Later,

Ope
